In the current times of struggling basketball in Houston, all of us Rocket fans can only look forward to the future. And while the future is bright, let's take a moment and take a dive into the past to see the top players who made Rockets basketball what it is.
#5: Calvin Murphey
Calvin Murphy spent all of his 13 year career in H-TOWN. He won't be credited much with any awards or trophies, but the loyalty from the Hall of Famer while still being a great player will launch him into a Top 5 Rocket of all time.
Calvin Murphey Career Stats: 17.9 PPG, 4.4 APG, 2.1 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 48.2 FG%.
#4: Elvin Hayes
Elvin Hayes spent nearly half of his career representing the Rockets. Starting off in San Diego as the first pick, he would become the scoring leader as a rookie, averaging 28 points and 17 rebounds.
The 12 time all star and Hall of Famer was an elite scorer and a beast on the boards. If he spent more time in Houston, he could've easily jumped into the Top 3.
Elvin Hayes Career Stats: 21 PPG, 12.5 RPG, 1.8 APG, 2 BPG, 1 SPG.
#3: Moses Malone
Another Hall of Famer, Moses Malone wasn't in Houston for long, but his resumé will speak for himself.
Malone was named a 13 time all star, along with an impressive Finals MVP in his championship run with the 76ers.
His crazy averages play him just ahead of Elvin Hayes, but his lack of long tenure and championships for Houston will keep him behind the next two guys.
Moses Malone Career Stats: 20.3 PPG, 12.3 RPG, 1.3 APG, 1.3 BPG, 49.5% FG%.
#2: James Harden
Harden was loved by Houston from the moment he arrived from OKC, he may no longer be on the team, but the former MVP certainly deserves the number 2 spot on this list.
Harden would go on some crazy scoring stretches of more than 50 points to even 60 points at times. These performances helped Harden become a three time scoring champion and a 10 time all star while also helping Houston make runs in the playoffs.
He's one of the best shot creators the game has seen, giving Rocket fans so many memories for the decade of 2010.
James Harden Career Stats: 24.9 PPG, 6.8 APG, 5.6 RPG, 1.5 SPG , 44.2% FG%.
(Stats on 11-8-22)
#1: Hakeem Olajuwon
Another first overall pick by Houston, Hakeem Olajuwon is the clear best Rockets player of all time.
Hakeem would spend 17 seasons with the Rockets, winning the Rockets only two championships in franshise history.
MVP, 12 time all star, 2 championships, 2 Finals MVP, 2 DPOTY, and a hall of famer, not only is he the best in Rockets franshise history, but one of the best players of all time as well.
Hakeem Olajuwon Career Stats: 21.8 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 2.5 APG, 3.1 BPG, 1.7 SPG.
