Today, DC United meets the New England Revolution at Foxborough for the last game before the MLS All-Star Game. Today, we will take a moment to remember one of the greats, that is: Wayne Rooney.
Wayne Rooney has been the head coach for DC United for five years; yesterday marks the fifth anniversary of his player debut against the Vancouver Whitecaps. In July of 2018, Rooney left his childhood team of Everton to make his debut for DC United as forward. After three matches with DC, Rooney was named Captain. Before leaving soccer with Derby County, Wayne Rooney took a job as a player-coach from 2020, until 2022.
Wayne Rooney's final footballer record: 366 goals and 188 assists, with 883 appearances. 253 goals at Man United seats him at the club-highest. 208 goals, combined Everton and Man United, places him at third-highest for scorer and assists within the Premier League.
Wayne Rooney, for all his exploits as one of England's top footballers, is many things: a philanthropist; one of the greatest-ever goal scorers for both Manchester United and England, and the next All-Star Game coach. Coach Rooney has raised millions for vulnerable children through his work at the Wayne Rooney Foundation. Amazon Prime and Netflix both also had a bidding war for the biopic, which can be found below.
As of tonight, DC United sit at 8th in the East after losing to New England, 4-0. Rooney's record with DC United has seen a deficit at 11-9-19 since he took the helm for the 2022 season. Wayne Rooney, though skepticized, has watched the game grow since his appearance five years before. The All-Star Game will be held on home turf, Audi Field, on the 19th of July.
